Gunman shoots wife, four men dead in California


A gunman has killed five people, including his wife, in a string of shootings in southern California.

The story apparently began with the suspect and his wife going to a trucking business on Maxwell Street just before 5:30 p.m. The gunman's motive and relationship to all the victims is now unclear.

He said the gunman then went to a home where he shot two people.

After a short foot chase the gunman shot and killed him too. He then hijacked a auto but the woman and child inside the vehicle escaped.

He commandeered a vehicle before he killed himself when he was confronted by a sheriff's deputy.

He did not disclose the identities of the victims, and added the woman whose vehicle was taken, and her child, were unharmed. The woman and child escaped, the Californian reported.

The shooting left 6 dead, including the gunman and his wife, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood told reporters.

"It's highly unusual to have six people killed in one incident", the sheriff said.
