President Trump defended his "America First" agenda in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, in effect spiking the football at what his secretary of state described as the "Super Bowl of diplomacy".

"Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime", Trump declared as he warned that the United States was prepared to "totally destroy North Korea". Watch live in the player above.

Trump's pullout from the deal was met with intense criticism from world leaders, especially those of the other countries - Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russian Federation - that brokered the accord. On Monday, he participated in a counter-narcotics event calling for global action to address the illegal movement and abuse of drugs.

Trump has long decried past USA leaders - especially his predecessor, Barack Obama - for showing weakness on the world stage. "So true", Trump said at the top of his speech.

Donald Trump was laughed at by the United Nations as he touted his administration's achievements in New York City on September 25.

North Korea: "With support from many countries here today we have engaged with North Korea to replace the specter of conflict with a bold and new push for peace", said Trump.

"We are only going to give foreign aid to those who respect us and, frankly, are our friends", Trump said.

The expected showdown in NY will come just four months after Trump chose to ditch the landmark nuclear 2015 nuclear deal, which provided Iran sanctions relief in exchange for agreeing to inspections and limits on nuclear activity.

If the president's approach to North Korea has softened in the a year ago, his attitude towards Iran has not.

As a precondition for any dialogue, Rouhani said Trump would need to fix the damage done by exiting the nuclear deal.

But according to ESPN , Herrera has no interest in joining the Catalan club and would prefer to stay at Old Trafford. We were disappointed to concede early but I thought we grew into the game'.

While Trump appeared surprised at the time - and said as much - he later claimed to reporters that that part of his speech "was meant to get some laughter".

"Didn't expect that reaction but that's OK", Trump responded with a chuckle, prompting the audience of world leaders, their aides and the media to erupt with laughter.

Trump went on to speak about his "highly productive" summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un as well as the devastating civil war in Yemen.

The White House did not immediately explain why Mr Trump was late. Last year, Trump had told the UN General Assembly that North Korea's reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles threatened the entire world with unthinkable loss of human life.

"We will never surrender America's sovereignty to an unelected, unaccountable global bureaucracy".
