Khan wants Pacquiao fight over domestic showdown with Brook

Brook was ringside at Arena Birmingham on Saturday as Khan floored Vargas in the second but then had to beat the count himself after being caught flush with a right hand.

"It's been three years since I went 12 rounds".

Amir Khan had to climb off the canvas to beat Samuel Vargas after a dramatic welterweight clash in Birmingham. Thrilling, exciting, but always vulnerable.

"The only fight that works for me over Kell Brook is Manny Pacquiao", Khan said after the fight.

"I'd love to take that fight", he told The Telegraph. Vargas made Khan pay for the lapse in concentration, and an overhand right to the jaw sent him down.

Pompeo slams Kerry for 'inappropriate' Iran meetings
Pompeo stopped short of calling Kerry's meetings a violation of FARA, saying he would "leave the legal determinations to others". And according to him, right, you don't have to take my word for it, he - these are his answers, he was talking to them.

The Bolton welterweight, in his second fight since returning to the ring after a two-year absence, was knocked to the floor in the final seconds of the second round.

This was a lot more hard than the 39-second demolition job on Phil Lo Greco five months ago in another step back before a big fight after being knocked cold by Saul Alvarez in May 2015.

"The rumours were that he pulled out of that because he couldn't even make 154lbs, so him making 147lbs is just a line he is using to get the fans back again, or win the fans over".

To his credit, Khan settled back down in the third round to score another knockdown of his own as the thrills and spills continued to come through the first half of the bout.

Hearn has got Cardiff's Principality Stadium provisionally booked for December 1 and 8 but now wants to stage Khan's next fight on December 15 or 22. Khan looked very fast and strong early.

The former light-welterweight world champion, who had dropped Phil Lo Greco twice in under 39 seconds, was given a much sterner test by Vargas.

From there, Khan used his jab and quick combinations on the inside to outbox Vargas, who was bleeding heavily from the nose.

But the elephant in the room, Khan's fragile chin, let him down right at the end of round two as a long-range right hook left him on his backside.

Asked if he could have beaten Brook on the night, Khan said: "One hundred per cent".
