"The reason why I don't sing it or stand is because Advance Australia Fair means advance White Australia", she told The Courier-Mail.

While I agree that Harper's anthem boycott may have been largely in part due to conversations with her parents and a result of her upbringing, the truth of the matter is that Harper's courage should be admired.

But her protest has outraged some, including Ms Hanson, who posted a video response on Facebook describing Harper as "disgraceful". They are now calling for grade 4 student Harper Nielsen, who says the anthem is racist, to be kicked out of school.

"They have said that she has to stand or she has to leave the assembly area", he said.

Mr Watson said we should applaud the schoolgirl her for challenging the status quo, not attack her.

Speaking to Channel 10, she said: "When it says "We are young" it completely disregards the Indigenous Australians who were here before us for over 50,000 years". Meanwhile, Pauline Hanson has voiced her thought, asserting the schoolgirl had been "brainwashed" and will be pulled out of the college."I'm listening to from too many of us that in fact feel our childhood are being brainwashed in our academic map, this transgender sex stuff, this gracious college project, what the hell is going on?"

Harper Nielsen, who lives in the state of Queensland, told CNN-affiliate Nine News she sat during the her country's national anthem because she believed it was disrespectful to Indigenous Australians.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson also labelled Harper a "brat" and claimed she had been "brainwashed".

"I tell you what, I'd give her a kick up the backside".

"Shame on her parents for using her as a political pawn".

"I'm angry about this".

The incident and remarks drew criticism from politicians, including former prime minister Tony Abbott, who suggested it signals "good manners" to stand while the anthem plays.
