Tesla Model 3 gets 5-star side crash rating


The NHTSA conducted tests to simulate head-on collisions, crashes into side barriers and poles and rollovers, and the Model 3 earned the top rating in every category, according to the agency's website.

Model 3's advanced safety tech landed it the top rating for front-crash prevention tech.

The NHTSA's three safety categories are frontal crash, side crash and rollover.

Between the NHTSA results and early feedback from the IIHS, Model 3 should rank among the industry's safest small cars.

In the latter test, the Model 3 earned a rollover resistance score of 6.60 percent.
